WELCOMEAfter deciding to seek a ‘tree change’ twelve years ago, our main requisites for a lifestyle property were: a drought-proof water supply, the land being chemical free and 'tractor friendly' as well as being reasonably cleared with views.
Our search led us to Ruffy, a district of approximately 200 people, in the Strathbogie Tablelands less than two hours drive north of Melbourne. The property of 185 acres was larger than we had anticipated buying but we could see the potential and it met all our requirements so we eventually sold our Melbourne home and became ‘full time farmers’. The biodynamic and biological principles used have provided healthy pastures and stock and frequent soil tests have produced excellent results. After selling all our 94 alpacas at a large auction on the property in January this year, we are still running cattle and some coloured sheep on the property. Having a background in the nursery industry, we were keen to establish a botanical environment. The fence around the house has moved out a few times and the garden is now quite extensive and often used as an 'OPEN GARDEN' for local charities. The ‘White House’, once the original homestead’s laundry/shearing quarters is used a self-contained Bed & Breakfast cottage. We have enjoyed our life in Ruffy immensely but the time has come to move on to a new adventure with the purchase of a narrowboat to explore the canals of the UK.... so the property is now on the market. |
